Projects Completed!!! Yeah!!!

We always like doing little projects around the house. We've finally completed two after some very long and very dirty hours.

First, Seth finished making a new book shelf for "baby brother's" room. He also made one like this for Norah when she was really little. It fits perfectly in his room. Seth thinks this one turned out better than the first one he made. Norah's getting a kick out of all the little baby toys that are on it.

This next one was a long time coming. Last summer I purchased this dresser for $1 at the Catholic church auction. But I knew we would want to fix it up and seeing that a new dresser will cost a couple hundred bucks I thought it would be worth a try. Hey, for $1 it was worth a shot.

This is what the dresser looked like when we got it. It had really old and chipping paint on it, but we knew there was nice wood underneath.

So first we striped all the paint off. We started this last fall, but then we had to stop our work because it was too cold outside for the paint stripper to work and we weren't going to do this work inside.

Then we sanded everything down. We were able to do some of it with a power sander, but a lot of it needed to be done by hand because of the detail.

All sanded. Once that was finished Seth did the stain and varnish on his own. I was there with moral support from outside the garage because of the baby. We threw in some contact paper and put on some new knobs and TA DA!!!

With all the supplies and the cost of the dresser it ended up costing us about $71 give or take a buck or two. We didn't log how many hours we spent working on it but we were joking around that we should have. Norah loves her new dresser. It's nice knowing that we will have another nice piece of furniture that will last a long time. This was the last thing we needed to get done before that baby comes, so now we're ready. Now we just need our little guy to get here.
